Role & Background
Co-founded a web-application company focused on ecommerce technology for businesses in the building-products industry.
- Built and operated more than 100 ecommerce websites using a LAMP architecture.
- Integrated product information from multiple APIs into custom ecommerce platforms.
- Built and operated a separate network of more than 800 affiliate websites using programs including Amazon and eBay.
- Combined software development with technical SEO, usability, performance and conversion optimization.
- The operational challenge of monitoring a large distributed web estate later helped drive the development of Slacron through SLA Monitoring Ltd.
Operating at Scale
Ecommerce plus a much larger affiliate-site network
The ecommerce portfolio eventually exceeded 100 production sites, but the broader web estate was substantially larger. A separate network grew to more than 800 affiliate sites connected to programs including Amazon and eBay.
Operating that many properties turned routine hosting and availability questions into an infrastructure problem. Failures needed to be detected quickly, response time mattered across many independent sites and manual checking did not scale.
From Problem to Product
The monitoring problem that helped lead to Slacron
The need to monitor a large distributed web estate became part of the practical motivation for building a dedicated monitoring platform. That work later became Slacron under SLA Monitoring Ltd., extending beyond simple uptime checks to response-time and server-load monitoring, reporting and incident alerts.
